Frequently Asked Questions

Wondering if this is the right time to work together? Here's a bit more detail about who we help and how we work.

What exactly is a Workplace Exit Strategist?

Most people leave jobs reactively. They are burned out, pushed out, or fed up. A Workplace Exit Strategist helps you do the opposite: leave on your terms, with a clear plan, protected interests, and a strong foundation for what comes next. Think of it as having a strategic advisor in your corner who knows how workplace dynamics, leverage, and transitions actually work, so you don't leave money, rights, or opportunities on the table.

Is this the same as Career Coaching?

No, and the distinction matters. Career coaching typically focuses on what you want to do next: your goals, your resume, your next role. Workplace exit strategy focuses on how you leave your current role. We cover your timing, documentation, leverage, and negotiation. The two serve different phases of a career transition, and most career coaches aren't trained in the exit phase specifically.

Who is Work Reboot For?

If you're an employed professional who knows (or suspects) it's time to leave, but you're not sure how to do it without blowing up your finances, reputation, or next opportunity, you're in the right place. Clients typically come in feeling stuck between a job they can't stay in and a move they're not sure how to make safely.

Do I need to be ready to leave before working with you?

No. In fact, the earlier you start, the better. Most clients come to Work Reboot while still fully employed and unsure whether leaving is the right call. Building a strategy before you're under pressure means you keep your options open, understand your leverage, and can move decisively when the time is right rather than scrambling to catch up.

Can I negotiate a severance package if I resign?

Yes, but most people don't realize it's possible. While employers don't typically advertise severance for resignations, negotiation is often viable, especially in cases involving toxic or hostile working conditions, long tenure, or a documented pattern of mistreatment. Even employees who initiate their own departure can negotiate pay, benefits continuation, references, and exit messaging. Work Reboot can help you understand your leverage before you say a word.

What should I do before leaving a toxic workplace?

Before leaving a toxic workplace, the most important steps are: document everything (dates, incidents, witnesses), understand your employment contract and any non-compete clauses, assess whether you have grounds for severance or legal recourse, and build a timeline that gives you financial and emotional runway. Leaving reactively, especially out of desperation, can cost you money and leverage you didn't know you had.

How do I leave without burning bridges?

Leaving without burning bridges comes down to timing, tone, and preparation. Give appropriate notice, keep your resignation letter factual and professional, offer a genuine transition plan, and navigate your exit interview strategically. The goal is to be remembered well. Former managers become future references, clients, and colleagues. A planned exit protects those relationships in ways a reactive one rarely does.

What does the process look like?

Every situation is different and we take a personalized approach. Generally, you can expect to: assess your current situation and goals, identify your leverage and risk points, map out a strategic timeline for your exit, and develop the specific steps: documentation, conversations, negotiations, needed to execute it well. You won't leave with generic advice; you'll leave with a plan built for your circumstances.

For many the process lasts 1-2 phone calls. For others we work together for months before plans are finalized and executed.

What kinds of situations does Work Reboot help with?

Work Reboot works with professionals navigating a wide range of exit situations: toxic or hostile work environments, burnout with no clear path forward, performance management or termination concerns, layoffs, and voluntary departures where clients want to negotiate terms or protect their reputation. If you're employed and thinking about leaving — for any reason — it's worth a conversation.

If we work together, are you my lawyer?

No. I am a lawyer licensed to practice in New York State but it's  important to be clear that I don't legally represent you. Work Reboot provides strategic consulting, not legal counsel.

That said, part of good exit strategy is knowing when a situation warrants legal support and how to position yourself effectively if it does. When legal issues are in play, you'll be pointed toward the right resources.

How is this different from just talking to HR?

HR works for the company, not for you. Their job is to manage the organization's risk, not protect yours. Work Reboot is entirely in your corner, helping you understand the full picture and make moves that serve your interests.

Will my company find out I'm talking to you?

No. Everything you share is completely confidential. Many clients are still actively employed while they work through their exit strategy, and discretion is built into everything.

Are your services available nationwide?

Yes. Work Reboot serves professionals across the United States. Sessions are conducted virtually, so geography isn't a barrier.

What if they've already given me something to sign?

We offer flat fee review of all severance documents. We can talk you through what all the legal terms mean and help you make a case that they should be offering you more.

How do I get started?

The best first step is to reach out and share a bit about your situation in a Free Intro Call. From there, you'll get a sense of how Work Reboot can help and what working together looks like. There's no pressure. I offer free consultations. It's just a conversation to see if this is the right fit. Book the call here.

How much does it cost to work with Work Reboot?
